Kamini Rachna (Health Presenter)

Care and Clinical Manager for many years with nearly 30 years of experience in mainstream and
aged care nursing in metropolitan, rural and regional areas of Australia. Kamini possesses a Masters
in Nursing Leadership from Victoria University, Melbourne, Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from
University of New England, Post Graduate subjects completed in Nurse Practitioner from James Cook
University and Bachelor of Nursing Science from Griffith University.
Kamini has been instrumental in developing the Diploma in Nursing Course for a private Registered
Training Provider in meeting the mandatory competency requirements of Australian Health
Practitioner Regulation Agency.
Kamini has undertaken projects in palliative care and transition of residents from hospital setting
environment to aged care and independent living units. Kamini's interests in nursing include
dementia, Alzheimer's, diabetes management, healthy ageing, aggressive behaviour amongst the
elderly.
Kamini besides her nursing profession has keen interest in Hindu culture and religion and sings
chautal/faag, sohar, log geet and kirtan. Kamini has been a keen volunteer in community groups
such as the Arya Samaj, Sanatan Dharam Queensland and other charitable groups.
Kamini currently resides in Brisbane Queensland Australia, born and grew up in Waiqele and
Nandamu, Labasa, Fiji. Her father was Late Ram Autar, former principal of Guru Nanak Secondary School
Labasa.
Kamini was born in Waiqele Vanua Levu and early on in her life settled in Nandamu Housing Estate in Labasa Town.
Her father Ramautar was born near Tabia and early in life moved to Waiqele after his parents bought a sugar cane farm. Ramautar, after finishing his teacher training at Nasinu Teachers College, his first posting was at Tabia Sanatan Primary School. He later went to USP and became the Principal at Guru Nanak Secondary School in Labasa.
Kamini's mother for many years worked as the Secretary for the Medical Superintendent at Labasa Hospital and for the Principal Engineer Northern PWD in Labasa.
Kamini's Nani sang Bedesia, Log Geet, and Sohar for many years till the age of 90 until she passed away a few years ago. Her Nani was born and raised in Korotari and sang at many weddings and other festivals. Kamini has kept the tradition which commenced in her family 140 years ago in Fiji.
Kamini's father, Ram Autar, also taught her to sing Chuatals or Faag, and she has been singing in Brisbane for the last 10 years. Her father, kakas, dada, and her Aaja, along with many of her relations from her paternal side, sang Chautals, Aahlaa, and Bihra in Tabia for a few generations and were neighbors of Professor Brij Lal and his family.
Kamini's interests are singing loggeet, chautals, sohar, kirtans, and other folk songs.
Kamini's Bedesia songs have reached India, Mauritius, and South Africa.

Kamini is married to Pravind Kumar, a very active Girmit Researcher and an executive of Global Girmit and Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
